Voices
of the Valley
When the 20 original
voices gathered in November 1998 to rehearse for
their debut performance in San Francisco, little could they imagine
that in 5 years' time, Voices of the Valley would grow to a 50-voice
strong chorus that performs regularly. The group of enthusiastic singers
gives sold-out concerts, collaborates with
local artists and performs for charity events in our community.
Through our performances,
we hope to add our unique spice to the Bay Area's diverse music
scene. Under the vision of our founding music director Stephanie
Chan, VOV not only delivers to our audience well-known choral
favorites, but also challenges them with rare and delightful
works from baroque to contemporary with an international flair. |
2003
Year 2003 marks the 5th Anniversary
of VOV. Over the past 5 years, our repertoire now includes masterpieces
like Haydn's Creation, Mozart's Requiem, Bizet's Carmen song
suite, Roger & Hammerstein's musical medley and many traditional and
modern Chinese compositions. Our audiences have always enjoyed VOV's staged
music, among them excerpts from Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutti, Oscar Strauss' Chocolate
Soldier, the Beauty and the Beast, and the complete cantata Captain
Noah and his Floating Zoo by Flanders and Horovitz.
This year, we are returning to the Mountain View
Center for the Performing Arts for our 5th
Anniversary Concert. Come and join us for an evening of music!
2002
We had a very fulfilling schedule and saw many breakthroughs this
year: We did two concerts, volunteered in two other community performance,
collaborated with a string ensemble and organized workshops for our
members. Our program started in February with the 'A New Beginning' Concert at the Cubberly
Theater in Palo Alto, while the annual concert 'Inspired
By Nature' took place in October at the Smithwick Theatre
in Los Altos Hills. The volunteering services include the Kexin
charity concert and Christmas caroling at the Stanford Hospital.

2001
Our third annual concert, IN LOVE, was held on July 21, Saturday. It
contained a collection of songs that are threaded together by the
theme of love. As variety has always been the forte of VOV, we included
songs from different time periods, of different cultural backgrounds,
in different languages and of different stories in this program.

2000
We had another exciting and fruitful year in 2000. Our Spring Concert took place on May 6
at the Spangenberg Theater in Palo Alto, and our Christmas Concert, Harmony,
was held on Dec 10, 2000 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Saratoga. Our
debut CD album was also available this year.

1999
1999 means a lot to our choir. Voices of the Valley first emerged
as an idea at the beginning of the year during a lunch conversation
among our few core members. In three months, we recruited enough talents
to double the size, and made our debut as guest performers in the The
Spring Gala held in San Francisco. In August 1999, we presented
our very first annual Summer Concert. In December, we performed
in the Seasons of Hope Concert series.
