In this concert, VOV will
present a collection of songs including choral arrangement of Beatle's Eleanor
Rigby and Michelle, Maryann, Carmencita, Caleno Custureme, and others.
For the anchor piece of this
performance, our music director Stephanie
Chan picked 木蘭從軍 ("Mulan Joins
the Army"): a 1-hour musical by composer 黃友棣(Hwang Yau-Tai)
and librettist 黎覺奔 (Lai Kok Bun), sung in Mandarin, with English translations. In length, scale
and musical arrangement, 木蘭從軍 ("Mulan
Joins the Army") is
written with a medium-sized choir with dramatic experience in mind,
accompanied by a solo piano -- and that description spells VOV in every way.
