Life Orchestra is part of the outreach program of Silicon Valley Alliance Church. It is a Youth Orchestra in the North Valley, here in the South Bay.

Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at Silicon Valley Alliance Church in Milpitas. Members learn orchestral techniques, participate in chamber music and perform in concerts.

Since it first started in September 1999, Life Orchestra has given several performances, including the 1999 Christmas Concert, and the Millenium New Year Concert. These were all very well received. This year Life Orchestra has been invited by Berryessa Chinese School as a guest performer in the Spring Program 2000. They are now in preparation of their first Annual Concert to be held on June 11, 2000 at the Milpitas Community Center.

Apart from the music training, Life Orchestra offers a great experience for young people to learn about art and life in the environment of the church. Parents and instructors all work together to make the Life Orchestra a worthwhile experience. Life Orchestra is now accepting applications for the 2000-2001 Season audition.

Andrew Chan has been a First violinist in the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also lecturer in violin at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Institute of Education. He received violin instructions and orchestral training with a full scholarship from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and was honored with scholarships from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He has been active in the music scene as concert soloist and chamber music player, and has been invited as guest artist by the Hong Kong Arts Festival and the International Contemporary Music Festival. Andrew has given several recitals in the Bay Area and performed as the Concertmaster of the De Anza Symphony Orchestra in the 1998 season. He has taught violin in the South Bay since 1996.
